"A RENOWNED bar in the Welsh capital is undergoing a major refurbishment to fit in with the ongoing redevelopment of the city centre.

Minskys Showbar is adopting a new cosmopolitan style, extending the building into its car park and opening its front to incorporate seating with large glass doors leading into the newly renovated bar.

Minskys, in Cathedral Walk, has been considering changing its appearance since the announcement of the St David’s 2 development more than six years ago and considers this, together with the wider regeneration of the city centre, as the catalyst for the proposed modernisation.

Derek Cunningham, owner of Minskys Showbar, said, “Times have been tough recently as the city undergoes such an extensive transformation, but we are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel.

“To further boost businesses and fit in with the new look of the city centre, we want to give the bar a face lift to make it more sophisticated and attract a wider audience during the day as well as in the evenings.

“It’s time for us to make a conscious effort to be incorporated into the new feel of the city and show people that we are still open for business.

“All our acts, staff and regular customers are excited about being part of the new Cardiff.”
Simon Armstrong, project director for St David’s 2, said, “As Cardiff goes through this phase of development, businesses and residents alike are having to adapt and make adjustments.

“Minskys Showbar is an excellent example of a proactive company working hard to keep trade going and with the new plans to revamp the building in 2008 they will be positioned in a very prominent position on the corner of Debenhams and Cathedral Walk leading to Marks and Spencer."
